Picnic season does not have to mean extra calories!! Check out these tips!

With spring upon us and the beautiful weather outside it is definitely time for picnics!! I am always a fan of anything that get's the kids out to exercise and includes food. Since I love to eat and am battling weight these tips that I have gathered from here and there have been very helpful.
  • Ditch the Chips
Bring lots of cut-up fruit and vegetables to a picnic; they're healthy, they're great for sharing, and they'll keep you from eating too many chips.
  • Keep It Cool
Water isn't just a great way to fight the extra pounds. It is necessary when you are out under the sun for several hours. Stay hydrated = stay cool.
  • Drink Up
Seltzer with a spritz of sugar free juice adds a bubbly touch without the extra calories of soda! Of course, for the adults, the new breed of screw-cap and boxed wines can do a heart good, too! Just remember to also drink plenty of water.
  • Don't Forget Dessert
Watermelon is a natural for picnics, but any fresh fruit is a crowd pleaser—and healthy, too. Berries, for example, are well-known for their antioxidant punch. I prefer a berry salad made of a variety of berries, splashed with lemon juice and sprinkled with cinnamon for that extra zing.
